JIMPETES

A county Galway pub will be serving Guinness for just 5c this weekend to celebrate its 80th birthday.

Jim Petes Pub in Glenamaddy will be selling cut-price pints of plain for an hour tomorrow Saturday and again on Sunday.

Second-generation publican James Keaveney revealed that’s how much one cost when the establishment first opened its doors to customers back in 1944.

Guinness, as well as Guinness 0.0, will be available on draught during the promotion between the hours of 8pm and 9pm on Saturday and between 6pm and 7pm on Sunday.

Mr Keaveney told today’s The Irish Mirror: “We are celebrating a continuous 80 years in business. As a thank you to customers, Guinness will be 5c for one hour on both Saturday and Sunday.”

“A business wouldn’t survive over 80 years without the community behind it. It’s our way of thanking the community. Everybody in the area has a story which connects them to Jim Petes because it’s been here so long.”

He explained: “In Jim Petes, people have had their christenings, they have had funerals, they’ve had everything here.

“So it’s very much part of their families and we decided right we need to mark this. There are so many pubs on their knees currently and we wanted to turn this totally around and it’s really positive.”
