Calls for clarity on the plan for Mary Robinson Centre Development

An 800,000 euro debt is owed to Mayo County Council for some years now from the Mary Robinson Centre Development in Ballina.

However, Westport based councillor Peter Flynn says details on how the outstanding sum owed from  the Victoria House Foundation will be repaid to the local authority are not available.

At the February monthly meeting of Mayo County Council the councillor called for two members of the local authority to be appointed to the board of the Victoria House Foundation in an effort to secure more information and for more transparency for tax payers monies.

The proposal was adopted.

At present a 6 million euro Mary Robinson Centre building located in Ballina town centre remains idle for two years now.

The monies were, for the most part, provided by government and the local authority and action is now required, the councillor argues.

Councillor Flynn who has raised the 800,000 euro debt from the Foundation to Mayo County Council on numerous occasions at local authority level has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley…
