The Irish Blood Transfusion Service says the holiday season is a challenging period for its services.

10-thousand blood donors are needed over the Christmas period, to maintain hospital operations.

O negative, A negative and B negative are currently in short supply.

Paul McKinney, Operations Director of the IBTS, is urging people to donate.
