Mayo v Galway - Allianz Football League Division 1

An investigation may be launched into an incident involving a fan and a referee following Mayo’s defeat to Galway on Sunday last in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park.

After the final whistle, TG4 cameras captured the moment where a fan ran onto the pitch and appeared to shove match referee Noel Mooney from behind.

The Central Competitions Control Committee are awaiting Mooney’s match report, which will then allow them to determine whether or not they should launch an investigation into the alleged push.

It is expected that the Cavan referee will include the incident in his report, and Mayo GAA has vowed to review stewarding procedures at the county ground.

Mayo GAA will co-operate with the relevant authorities as part of the investigation, which could result in a lengthy ban for the spectator.

Galway were 10 point winners over Mayo on Sunday, 0-26 0-16.
